The Chauvet Hotel, the most prominent structure in
Glen Ellen, is a local, state and national landmark.
Built in 1906 as a three-story hotel, saloon and dance hall, it was a
bawdy roadhouse in its day. It
served both visitors and locals as a year-round center for social activities.
Current plans call for an historic restoration and conversion to a luxury
boutique, bed-and-breakfast hotel and health spa for wine-country travelers.
The unreinforced masonry building required a complete seismic upgrade and
careful reconstruction of original details and materials while adding new
elements. A porte-cochere
defines the new hotel entry and enhances the historic aesthetic.
State of the art facilities for stylish meetings, seminars and private
dining serve the needs of visitors and local townspeople alike.
A new wing forms a courtyard
with luxury suites over the spa facilities facing the pool patio.
The hotel has 30 rooms, including four suites, with 20 rooms in
the original historic building and 10 rooms in the new spa wing.
This blend of old and new allows for contemporary luxuries, well-designed
appointments and a historic, turn-of-the-century setting for variety and
flexibility in guest services. A new
health spa provides treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, workout area and
locker rooms. A walled courtyard
between the two buildings provides security and privacy and a luxurious
elegance. Within this courtyard will
be lush landscaping, grape arbors, swimming pool, spa and patio for relaxing and
poolside dining “al fresco.”
