Ameriflight Headquarters

Addition, Remodeling and Tenant Improvements

Oakland Airport

Oakland, California

This 26,000 SF complex for an air courier service at Oakland Airport is comprised of three aircraft hangars, control tower, administrative offices, conference room, pilot’s facilities, personnel support, maintenance facilities, sort operation and a training center.  The octagonal control tower serves as the focal point of the entire operation.  The new additions were designed to accommodate future expansion as the company grows.  The hangars dating from the original airport were remodeled, additions built and tenant improvements completed to blend with and complement the historic Art Moderne architecture.  The interiors were restored, redesigned and updated for contemporary styling and functionality.  The existing floor plan was expanded and linked to the hangars with the new additions.  Views opening into the maintenance areas were added to evoke an industrial aesthetic.  A new skylit lobby/foyer serves as a circulation spine to connect and organize the various functional spaces of the headquarters complex.  State-of-the-art communications and environmental systems were incorporated into the project to serve present and future needs. Acoustical control, daylighting and durable industrial materials were used to provide maximum comfort, energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness and reduced maintenance.
